A concert in memory of the world-famous opera singer, soloist of the Paris National Opera, Hero of Ukraine Vasyl Slipak was held in Yokohama, organized by the Yokohama Youth Orchestra and the Embassy of Ukraine in Japan.

It is noted that the concert was the first public performance of the Yokohama Youth Orchestra. Ukrainian Taras Demchyshyn conducted. The concert was also attended by Ukrainian singer of Japanese opera Nissey Denis Vyshnya, violinists Lisa Izumi and chairman of the Japanese-Ukrainian Art Association Chie Sawada.
“During the event, visitors were able to enjoy a photo exhibition about Ukraine, including works by Anna Senik, paintings by the Ukrainian military by Japanese artist Natsume, as well as an exhibition of works by Ukrainian artist Andriy Mishchak,” the statement said.
The diplomatic mission added that the concert was attended by Polish Ambassador Pavel Milevski, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova Anna Vatamanyuk, representatives of Yokohama City Hall, Japanese friends of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian community of Japan.
The Embassy thanked the participants for their participation and support.
Vasyl Slipak (1974-2016) – Ukrainian opera singer (bass-baritone), soloist of the Paris National Opera, volunteer, a participant in the hostilities of the war in Russia in eastern Ukraine. Call sign “Myth”.
He died in the Donetsk region on June 29, 2016, in a battle from a sniper bullet.
In February 2017, Vasyl Slipak was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.
