Cambridge University has developed a technology for ultra-fast battery charging. With its help, the smartphone is fully charged in about five minutes, which can be considered a record (unless, of course, in the secret Chinese laboratories have not developed something even cooler).

Charging technology is based on the method of optical microscopy. The charger “looks” inside the battery and directly charges those particles that have lost charge. This allows you to significantly increase the efficiency of energy transfer, and hence the charging speed.
In their experiments, the researchers were able to see in real-time what exactly limits the charging speed, making it less efficient and faster. During charging, the battery is almost not heated, because the energy is fed directly to the discharged particles, bypassing the already charged, thereby increasing efficiency.
Scientists are very inspired by the results of the experiment and hope that their findings will be used to create batteries and charging technologies in the future. It is unknown how long it will take, but even now some smartphones charge very quickly, which is achieved by transferring high-power energy (100 watts and above) to several battery cells simultaneously.
