“Photos of landslides and deformations of the road surface on the Kyiv-Odesa road near the village of Troitske in Odesa region have appeared in the media. The reason is excessive rainfall.
The Minister stressed that the problem is much deeper. More than 15 years have passed since the road was reconstructed, and the road’s operational characteristics have been exhausted.
“In this landslide situation, we also see that the road base itself was of poor quality. In recent years, we have tried to maintain the road in normal condition within the maintenance. However, these measures are not enough, given that traffic is one of the highest in Ukraine “, – the Minister of Infrastructure explained.
He reminded that the renovation of the M-05 road in Kyiv and Cherkasy oblasts began in 2019-2020 at the expense of the state budget.
At the same time, preparations are underway to upgrade the road in Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, and Odesa oblasts at the expense of the EBRD and the EIB. As part of a joint project with an international partner, as well as President Volodymyr Zelensky’s “Large Construction” program, almost 300 km of roads will be renovated. The project documentation has already been approved at the first sites and all procedures have been completed. The next step will be the announcement of tenders, after which repairs will begin.
“In a few years, the Kyiv-Odessa road will become exemplary,” Kubrakov is convinced.
As previously reported, the coordinator of the “Big Construction”, Deputy Chairman of the Office of President Kirill Tymoshenko said that the plans of “Ukravtodor” – to repair the entire network (over 20 thousand km) of state roads by the end of 2023.
