As it turned out, the transition to winter is often associated with impaired concentration and even the development of depression.

On the last Sunday of October, we will switch from summer to winter time. Turning the clock back one hour is only a small change, but in practice, changing the time leads to problems with circadian rhythms, sleep disturbances, mood, and sometimes causes disease.
Family medicine doctor Kristina Shevchenko talks about how the transition to winter time affects the body, as well as how to prepare for the transfer of the clock.
When to switch the clock to winter time 2021: date and conditions
How the transition to winter affects the body
The transition to winter time can cause:
exacerbation of depressive symptoms;
violation of the biological clock;
reduction of energy in the body;
constant feeling of lack of sleep;
irritability and impaired concentration.
In the context of the translation of the clock, much is said about the economical use of electricity and much less is said about the effect on the body created by such a change of time.
Before the body switches to a completely different rhythm, a person may experience a lack of appetite, excessive drowsiness, problems with the gastrointestinal tract, a bad mood. At the same time, the body needs at least a week to adapt to new conditions.
The transition to winter contributes to depression
This conclusion was reached by scientists from the University of Aarhus in Denmark. They studied cases where 185,000 people were diagnosed with depression in 1995-2012. As it turned out, in 11% of depression and bad mood were associated with the transition of the clock to winter time. In addition, this condition was facilitated by worsening weather conditions, reduced sunlight, and cooling. Simply put, people started seasonal depression
Clock change changes the regulation of biological rhythms
Changing the time also leads to a violation of the regulation of the biological clock, which is tuned to a certain way of life. Strange as it may seem, but the transfer of the clock even for one hour is of great importance for the body – it changes the time of eating and falling asleep. All this affects the work of the central nervous system, which is also responsible for the mental state of man. Similar modifications of the circadian rhythm affect the secretion of hormones such as cortisol and melatonin. Hence, during the change of time often develop sleep disorders, insomnia and a high susceptibility to stressful situations.
Depending on the lifestyle, the transition from summer to winter can cause many problems. Yes, people who work night shifts should take into account the fact that they will spend more time at work, which will increase fatigue and stress. Therefore, over the next few days or even weeks, the body will get used to the changes, reacting to a lack of energy and vigor.
The transition to winter causes problems with falling asleep
For people who can afford to sleep, changing times can also have some adverse effects. The sense of time changes, and first of all there are changes at the level of circadian rhythm. As a result, in the following days there may be problems with falling asleep or getting up, and, as a consequence, during the day fatigue and apathy.
Turning the clock threatens an increased risk of heart attack
British scientists have conducted interesting and useful research. Observing the health of people with cardiovascular problems, experts have noticed that the risk of heart attack increases during the transition from summer to winter, when the hands of the clock are turned back an hour. Experts suspect that the cause of such heart problems is lack of sleep and disruption of biorhythms associated with changes in time. In addition, older people find it more difficult to adapt to the new times.
The transition to winter time also affects children. Yes, there are studies showing that after a change of time, children become more fussy and capricious than usual.
How to prepare for the translation of the clock
Give up energy drinks and caffeine for a while. Until the rhythm of the biological clock is normalized, they can increase the feeling of fatigue.
Postpone important things, especially solving intellectual problems for a few days, until the body gets used to the change of time.
For easier falling asleep before bed, take a warm bath, drink a glass of hot milk or turn on soft music.
In the first days after the transition to winter time, try to go to bed on a biological clock
