Over the course of several days, 15 alleged smugglers who were transporting people from Syria, Lebanon and Egypt were arrested, the report stated.
According to the Lower Austria Police Department, most of the immigrants went to Germany
It is noted that on November 16 from the border between Serbia and Hungary, a convoy of 25 vehicles moved out, in which there were from 200 to 300 people. Her route passed through the territory of Slovakia and the Czech Republic to Lower Austria, where the police stopped 14 vehicles. According to the investigation, drivers were hired in Moldova, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, offering them up to 3,000 euros a month.
About a third of the detained migrants applied for asylum in Austria, the rest said that they planned to move to Germany themselves.
As dpa adds, more than 330 people were detained in Austria on suspicion of smuggling people this year.
