Ukraine Gate- Kyiv – April 28, 2022-The United Nations Coordinator for Ukraine, Osnat Lubrani, went on a trip to Zaporizhia today to prepare for a possible evacuation from Mariupol at the request of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Secretary-General António Guterres came to Ukraine to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Lubrani stressed that the United Nations was fully mobilized to save the lives of Ukrainians and help those in need.
Guterres also arrived in Ukraine on April 27 after visiting Moscow and meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations also said that Putin agreed to involve the structures of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross in the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol after the meeting between Putin and Guterres, and Guterres suggested the formation of a humanitarian contact group composed of representatives from Russia, Ukraine and the United Nations “to find Ways to open safe passages with a local cessation of hostilities and to ensure that they are truly effective.”
