Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk may soon leave his post and become Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Dmytro Kuleba. The German tabloid newspaper BILD writes about it .
Details
As the newspaper writes with reference to its sources in the Ukrainian government, the ambassador may soon leave Berlin and return to Kyiv, where he will take the post of deputy minister of foreign affairs.
According to sources, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made this offer to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The ministry “appreciates the ambassador for his work, and wants to see him in this position in Kyiv.” According to the newspaper, Melnyk’s move from Berlin may take place by autumn.
BILD calls the fact that the representative of Kyiv remained in the post of ambassador of Ukraine even after the change of central government unusual. He was an ambassador during the term of office of the fifth President Petro Poroshenko, and continued his activities under Zelenskyi. In general, Melnyk holds the position for 8 years. It is noted that ambassadors usually serve for four years, with a maximum of six years.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine refused to comment on Melnyk’s dismissal for BILD. The ambassador himself is also unavailable for comment.

Melnyk is known for his sharp criticism of the Berlin authorities for delaying the supply of weapons to Ukraine, as well as his protection of Stepan Bandera, who is recognized as a national hero of Ukraine.
In one of the last interviews with the German media, the ambassador called the German authorities’ ban on Ukrainian symbols in Berlin on May 8-9 a ” slap to Ukraine “.
Earlier, Melnyk accused the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier of excessive closeness to Russia against the background of the war in Ukraine. In an interview with the German publication Der Tagesspiegel, he accused the politician of “a web of contacts” with a terrorist country.
