Ukraine Gate – Kyiv – July 4, 2022- At the beginning of the meeting of the Polish National Security Council, where the results of the NATO summit in Madrid were discussed, the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin was not able to “outperform” NATO countries and cause a rift among the members of the alliance to achieve its aggressive goals.
Putin expected that he would be able to defeat NATO, but he miscalculated, he believed that he would be able to sow discord between the alliance countries, and that NATO countries would not be able to take important decisions together that would shape the security sphere, and Duda stressed that such decisions It has been taken and is very specific in many respects.”
According to him, three important documents were adopted during the summit: the NATO Strategic Concept, which records the change in approach towards the eastern side of the alliance and the real threat from Russia; joint declaration where it was possible to agree on all important positions; An agreement was reached on the admission of new members of NATO – Sweden and Finland.
“Now the borders of the alliance will expand by 1,400 km, and this is not the best news for the Russian government, which has ambitions to absorb and control others,” the Polish leader said.
He added that during the summit, they discussed threats from China, as well as the situation with possible famine in North Africa and the Middle East due to the food crisis that may arise as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
A meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government was also held in Madrid on June 28-30. During the summit, NATO leaders agreed on a new strategic concept for the alliance for the next ten years, adopted a new comprehensive aid package for Ukraine in its resistance to Russian invasion, and gave the “green light” to the process of joining the Finland-Sweden alliance.
