“Ukraine does not agree with the statement about the ineffectiveness of international sanctions against the Russian Federation. Let me remind you that they were introduced in response to the full-scale war launched by Russia against our state, which has already taken tens of thousands of Ukrainian lives, left hundreds of thousands of critical infrastructure facilities in ruins, and forced millions of people to leave their homes,” Nikolenko stressed.

According to him, sanctions help bring the aggressor state to account for its crimes, as well as weaken its ability to continue waging war.
“It is not sanctions that are killing the European economy, but Russia’s hybrid war,” said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Kremlin created a gas crisis in Europe in order to undermine prosperity in European countries.
“The Prime Minister of Hungary should not call for the lifting of sanctions against Russia at a time when the Russian army is cold-bloodedly killing Ukrainian children in Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and other cities, but on the contrary, for increasing effective steps to curb Russia’s aggressive policy. It is important to face the truth: Russia is solely responsible for the start and continuation of the war. And only by forcing it to peace thanks to joint efforts and unity can we guarantee that Ukraine, Hungary, and Europe in general will return to normal life,” the diplomat emphasized.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on partners to adopt the seventh package of EU sanctions against Russia as soon as possible, to eliminate loopholes for circumventing the sanctions regime, as well as to further increase the volume of supplies of heavy weapons to the Ukrainian army.
Context
In an interview with Kossuth Radio, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán repeated the Kremlin’s narrative that sanctions against the Russian Federation allegedly cause more damage to those who impose them, saying that “the sanctions policy did not live up to expectations.”
