“We have been actively preparing for various scenarios for 3 months. We have created the appropriate headquarters at the highest level. Such preparation includes 4 main aspects. Sufficient gas reserves, sufficient coal reserves, readiness of power generating enterprises and infrastructure, preparation for emergency situations”, Shmyhal said.
Sufficient gas reserves
Shmyhal noted that gas is being pumped into Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities.
“As of today, Ukraine already has 11.3 billion cubic meters of gas. In total, almost 3 billion cubic meters of blue fuel have been injected since the beginning of the year. Opportunities have been created for the physical reversion of gas from Europe. Despite the military actions, gas production by the state company Ukrgazvydobuvannya has almost not decreased Naftogaz is tasked with having 19 billion cubic meters of gas in storage before the start of the heating season,” Shmyhal said.
Sufficient coal reserves
Shmyhal noted that as of mid-July, there are 1.5 million tons of coal.
“This is two and a half times more than the guaranteed reserves for this time determined by official documents. We continue to increase our own production as well. We are forming agreements with partner countries so that by the beginning of the heating season our reserves will be more than 2 million tons,” Shmyhal said .
Readiness of energy generating enterprises and infrastructure
Shmyhal reported that currently, on average, a third of the work on preparing heat supply facilities, housing stock, and social facilities for the heating season has been completed.
“Almost UAH 300 million has been allocated for the repairs of three CHP plants in Chernihiv, Kremenchuk and Okhtyrka. Repairs of boiler houses and power lines are continuing,” Shmyhal said.
Preparation for emergency situations
Shmyhal noted that the government has allocated UAH 1.4 billion for the purchase of reserve equipment for regions in which emergency situations may arise.
“When your geographical neighbor is an inadequate terrorist, we have to prepare for any scenarios,” Shmyhal added.
