The Verkhovna Rada voted for the appointment of People’s Deputy, Chairman of the Parliament Committee on Legal Policy Andrii Kostin to the position of Prosecutor General, as proposed by the President, spokeswoman of the “Servant of the People” faction, Yulia Paliychuk, reported in Telegram .

“People’s deputy from “Servant of the People” Andrii Kostin has been appointed the new Prosecutor General of Ukraine. The relevant decision was supported by an almost constitutional majority of votes – 299 people’s elected representatives voted for it,” Paliychuk noted.

Now this decision must be approved by the President of Ukraine. According to the law, the Prosecutor General is appointed by the President with the consent of the Verkhovna Rada. The term of office of the Prosecutor General is six years. The same person cannot hold the position of Prosecutor General for two consecutive terms.
As People’s Deputy Oleksandr Bakumov reported in Telegram, the Verkhovna Rada also prematurely terminated the powers of People’s Deputy of Ukraine Andrii Kostin in connection with his submission of a personal statement on the compilation of powers.
