On the eve of the CES 2021 consumer electronics show, LG announced the upcoming release of a new 65-inch OLED display for TVs, which has passed the TUV Rheinland Eyesafe certification. The safety of the device for the eyes of users has been confirmed by a group of leading ophthalmologists in the world.
According to experts, the release of the Eyesafe-certified display “opens a new page in the history of consumer electronics.” The new LG is notable for the minimal level of radiation in the blue color spectrum with optimal color reproduction.
The emergence of a display that meets the requirements of Eyesafe, according to analysts, is important for the entire industry, because in a pandemic, the time that users spend on displays has increased significantly.
For example, a recent Nielsen report found that the average time a U.S. resident spends in front of a screen is about 13 hours a day.
In the context of the pandemic, “screen time”, including the use of televisions and electronic devices, continues to grow, and we believe that our duty is to put the health of consumers first. We look forward to continuing our work with LG Display, and encourage other major display and TV brand manufacturers to make Eyesafe’s decision in the near future, ”said Eyesafe CEO Justin Barrett.
The Eyesafe display standard itself includes a number of medical requirements for consumer electronics that have been developed by more than 250 ophthalmologists, engineers and optometrists from around the world.
It is expected that in 2021, monitors with Eyesafe certification and performed by other manufacturers will appear on the market.
