The team of climbers was able to climb the second highest peak of the planet K2 for the first time in winter.
Prior to that, Chogori (another name for K2 peak) remained inaccessible at this time of year. Its height of 8611 meters is the northernmost eight-thousandth in the world.
A team of ten Nepalese climbers was able to make the first winter ascent. One of them named Nimsday Purja confirmed the capture of the mountain. He posted a photo of the team celebrating at the top.

“Impossible is possible,” wrote Nimsday Purja.
“We are proud to have become part of human history and to show that cooperation, teamwork and a positive attitude can overcome all possible limitations,” the Nepalese added.
Recently, a Spanish traveler died on K2 – he failed during the descent. Experienced Spaniard Sergi Mingote has previously been able to conquer seven eight-thousanders, including Everest. He tried to climb K2 without an oxygen tank, but lost his strength and was forced to stop the expedition. During the descent to the base camp, he broke down and later died.
