Signs of lung cancer can be unexpected, at first glance, conditions that are easy to ignore – including back pain and stomach problems.
Specialists from the National Health Service (NHS) spoke about how lung cancer can develop. According to doctors, at first, there are usually no signs. As the tumor progresses, there may be some signals of a malignant process – cough, shortness of breath, decreased energy.
However, there are also some unexpected signs of lung cancer, which due to ignorance are easy to ignore.
Stomach problems. Up to 20 percent of all patients with this disease experience gastrointestinal symptoms – abdominal pain, nausea, constipation. There may also be sudden states when you absolutely do not want to eat or drink.
Back pain. Certain types of lung cancer, known as Pancost’s tumor, can spread to various parts of the body, including the back. An inexplicable pain in the back, shoulders, or shoulders become a sign of this.
Problems with balance. Some patients with lung cancer experience the development of autoimmune disorders: their immune system attacks the nervous system. This affects the work of muscles: you can feel unusual dizziness, loss of balance.
Dropped eyelids. Pancost tumors can also affect the optic nerves and half of the face. At the sick person, the eyelid suddenly falls or the pupil becomes unusually small only on one of the eyes.
Swollen fingertips. Some types of lung cancer cause the formation of hormone-like chemicals, under the influence of which excess fluid is sent to the extremities. Fingertips may seem thicker than usual, and nails look excessively shiny.
Experts remind that the most common cause of lung cancer is smoking: it is associated with the development of the disease in more than 70% of all cases. Most people diagnosed with this cancer are over 40 years old, and almost half of them are over 75 years old.
NHS experts urge you to see a doctor and get tested for any suspected cancer. In the case of lung cancer, it is better to be safe than to diagnose the disease too late.
