“Crypto per carat! We have just announced that the cryptocurrency will be accepted as payment for the exclusive D Flawless pear-shaped diamond weighing 101.38 carats – an important moment in the evolution of the market,” – said in a statement the auction house.
The rare pear-shaped diamond is expected to cost up to $ 15 million, with an auction scheduled for next month on July 9 in Hong Kong.
The pear-shaped diamond, dubbed The Key 10138, is one of ten diamonds weighing more than 100 carats ever put up for auction, only two of which were pear-shaped, according to Reuters.
In May, Sotheby’s sold Banksy’s work for $ 12.9 million, the first work of physical art sold by an auction house to be bought for cryptocurrency.
The cryptocurrency had an unstable year with explosive growth and severe declines.
