Ukraine will be forced to reorient its interests to the East if the influence of Russian lobbyists in the European Union and the United States increases and the policy of surrendering Ukrainian interests is implemented.
Kyiv. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – July 19, 2021 – Ukraine News
This was stated by the speaker of the Ukrainian delegation to the Tripartite Contact Group Oleksiy Arestovych on the Dom TV channel.
According to him, the European Union is heterogeneous in terms of relations with Russia. In particular, Germany continues to lobby for the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. And in late June, France and Germany initiated a meeting of EU leaders with Vladimir Putin, but this proposal was not supported by a number of countries.
The US political elite has also split over Russia, Arestovich said.
“And the Western elite, the military-political leadership of the West, has split. Because even in the United States, there are people around President Biden who would like, as they say, the normalization of relations with Russia,” Arestovich said.
He added that the “normalization” of Western relations with Russia could be “very unpleasant for Ukraine.”
“Given previous experience, how quickly and accurately the West surrendered Afghanistan, which is supported for 20 years, and then surrendered a week later,” Arestovich recalled.
He also noted that the confrontation between Russia and the United States, as well as China and the United States, should be taken into account.
“Some people in the West are so afraid of China that they want to drag the Russian Federation to the West, even at the cost of imposing on Russia a Russian solution to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict … And many forces in the West think it’s a small price: to sacrifice Ukrainian interests. Not to the end, of course, by giving some compensation, giving some guarantees, but to divide the spheres of influence on Ukraine between the European Union and Russia, for example, and deprive us of the right to our own historical destiny, “Arestovich said.
He added that in the EU, the US, and the world in general, there is a part of the elites who occupy the Ukrainian side, in particular, speaking out against Nord Stream-2, against imposing on Ukraine the Russian version of the Minsk agreements.
“There is Britain, there is Turkey. The president’s call was to the Chinese leader – this is another axis from which we can balance our relations. A major Asian tour of the president is planned,” Arestovich said.
According to the speaker of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, if pro-Russian sentiment in Europe and the West intensifies with an emphasis on surrendering Ukrainian interests, Ukraine will have no choice but to reconsider its geopolitical vector.
“And the general message is, as it seems to me, that if the West wants to make friends with Russia at the cost of surrendering Ukrainian interests or a significant part of them, we will turn to the East and rebalance our position. Therefore, Ukraine is on the verge of a foul in international politics,” stressed Arestovich.
He clarified that in the “turn to the East” he meant building a system of relations with China, Vietnam, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and other countries.
“Who have both the financial and political resources to prevent Ukraine from desubjecting, that is, depriving it of its historical destiny, subjectivity, as many in the West want, paying the price for normalizing relations with Russia and dragging it in the fight against China is on its side. It is a huge trap, dangerous. Now it is being fought against. The President is fighting for the subjectivity of Ukraine, “Arestovych concluded.
